Job Responsibilities

  • Support business development and marketing activities, including developing new clients and business, preparation of cost proposals, and presentations to existing and prospective clients.
  • Manage multiple clients, contracts, and projects at the same time.
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
  • Lead, mentor, oversee, and/or supervise engineers and other employees.
  • Review engineering calculations prepared by staff and senior level engineers.
  • Review technical reports prepared by staff and senior level engineers.
  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses, studies, and calculations.
  • Prepare and write engineering and other reports.
  • Responsible charge of staff performing field explorations, collection of samples, geologic reconnaissance, and mapping.
  • Responsible charge of staff performing construction observation on job sites and prepare summary logs and other documentation.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilsons Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon and Wilsons Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications


  • MS or PhD Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, supported by a BS degree in Geology or Civil Engineering.
  • PE and GE licensure required
  • 15 years of experience performing geotechnical field explorations and studies.
  • Mentoring and supervisory experience.
  • Geologic interpretation and analysis using soil and rock samples retrieved from explorations.
  • Subsurface exploration techniques including hollow-stem auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, rock coring, and test pit/trench logging.
  • Design and analyses of retaining structures, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability analysis. Experience with numerical modeling, dewatering, tunneling, micro tunneling, and horizontal direction drilling desirable.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing geotechnical reports.
  • Organizing, contracting with, and directing subcontractors.
  • Experience managing projects and interacting with clients.
  • Basic computer skills: MS Office required; AutoCAD and numerical modeling software desirable.

Typically, depending on an applicants education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Senior-Level Engineering Geologist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Associate or Senior Associate level.

A Senior-Level Geotechnical Engineer will be hired in at Shannon & Wilson as an Associate, Senior Associate, or Vice President:

  • Salary range: $160,000.00 - $199,000.00

The pay range for this position depends on skills, education, and experience. In additional to base pay, all employees are also eligible for an annual year-end discretionary bonus.
